Olive trees and olive oil are occupying a special place on Hvar Island. Everywhere you go you’ll be surrounded by olive groove bordered by grey stones stacked on mound few centuries old. Olive trees are very well known for its symbolic – hope, peace, eternity, holiness, splendor and of course – the magnificence of Mediterranean.

The nuns of Benediction monastery on the island of Hvar gave this island one more recognizable product that people also take for a souvenir. This monastery was founded far back in year 1664 and since then its nuns are making beautiful laceworks from agava. Procedure of fiber making out of this plant is passed on from one to another generation for about 120 years.
The very process is long and particular. Leaves of agava have to be at least 3 years old, then processed till the strings become white and set for embroiling. You can get this lacework in three styles: Tenerifa on paper bases, Tenerifa with the net or Net with metal net base. Every comment about this unique works is unnecessary.
