Cable Wakeboard on the island of Krk – Croatia


Besides a really rich tourist offer, the island of Krk offers you one of the most powerful adrenalin sports – cable wakeboard.

The development of this sport has its roots way back in 1984, the year of Orwell’s dark ideas. Anyway, this sport is anything but dark! Its arising history is very much connected with waterskiing and surfing and you can say, in common language, that wakeboard is their successful combination (all apologies to wakeboarders for my commonplace idea for such a general description).

Worldwide application of wakeboard divides this water sport into two main guidelines and those are: a boat wakeboard (when you are being dragged by a boat) and a cable wakeboard (being carried by a cableway system). Some are classified also in the wakeskate sport, which is the third choice in this water sport and have some differences, mainly in the equipment.

In your search for cable wakeboard, be sure to go to the island of Krk. In the hart of the Adriatic Sea, this is one of the rare ones. Similar cable wakeboard offers you can find on lots of lakes in Europe, while it is not common at all to find a water sport like this built by the sea coast.

Cable Krk is a very new cableway that offers you almost anything you could wish for when enjoying this exceptional voyage. As a part of this 400m2 facility made over the sea, you can go even to the Board shop, to have a drink or to eat something, you can get a tan, even sing and dance. Lough or two are common on account of beginners. Admiring and learning from the worlds best riders is also a part of this adventure.

Location of Cable Krk is in the very heart of the island of Krk – a couple of kilometres from the main town Krk and on the other side a couple of kilometres from the inevitable Marina of Punat.

Two cable parks are located in Croatia – Cable Krk which is entirely oriented on wakeboarding (island of Krk) and Ski lift Galeb which is a general destination for common waterskiing (Porec).

Wakeboarders are mostly younger people of age 15 to 25, however there are also riders for leisure of all ages and abilities. Wakeboard is, similar as the other extreme sports, pretty much a way of living and being for people who are enthusiastic doing it!

Lately, the wakeboard has become cheaper and more people can afford to ride. This fact will for certain influence the further development of this water sport. Already there are more than a hundred wakeboard and waterski cableway parks all over the world, mostly on lakes in Germany. Cableways are up to the standard for ecology and are for sure a sport of today.

Nevertheless, it is important to underline the existence of the Cable Wakeboard Council in IWSF, region EAME (Europe, Africa and Middle East). This fact gave the Wakeboard an organization and an international acceptance status. There is also the World Wakeboard Council (WWC) which part is IWSF.

The island of Krk is a regular host of various international water events every season.

And in the end I’ll only tell you that you won’t regret visiting Croatia and the island of Krk for a wakeboard experience. Namely, Croatia is a safe place for travellers and travelling. All of the Croatian people speak English, often also German and Italian.
